What is CTHI?

Churches Together in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight (CTHI) is a fellowship of Churches Together Groups who are committed to working together locally in mission.  They are facilitated in this work by the formal structure of CTHI which is comprised of an Ecumenical Development Group (EDG), a Church Leaders' Gathering and a Forum.  The EDG is chaired by the overall Chair of CTHI. We are hoping to appoint a Mission Together Enabler (MTE) who, if appointed, will be secretary to the EDG and will carry out other functions as agreed.

Ecumenical Development Group

Purposes:            

  1. To encourage and support, inspire and inform local ecumenical relationships and mission initiatives.
  2. To encourage and support each other.

Frequency: At least three times per year

Membership:     

  1. Chair of CTHI who is also Chair of the EDG
  2. MTE (if appointed)  
  3. DEOs
  4. Hon Treasurer
  5. Up to three co-opted members.

Church Leaders' Gathering

Purposes:             

  1. Mutual encouragement and support.
  2. The development of good personal relationships and mutual trust.
  3. Taking counsel together on matters of mutual concern.

Frequency: Biannually

Membership:     

  1. A person(s) representing the New Churches
  2. Bishop of Portsmouth (Anglican)
  3. Bishop of Portsmouth (Roman Catholic)
  4. Bishop of Winchester
  5. Chair, the Southampton District of the Methodist Church
  6. Divisional Commander, Southern Division of the Salvation Army
  7. Regional Minister, Southern Counties Baptist Association
  8. Moderator, the Wessex Synod of the United Reformed Church
  9. and, by invitation, CTHI’s Mission Together Enabler (MTE) (If appointed)

If CTHI decides to elect its Chair from the laity or from those who are ordained but not in a denominational or diocesan oversight role, then this person is invited to attend.

The CTHI Forum

Purpose: To inspire and inform ecumenical engagement. [This is not a business meeting – CTHI’s business is conducted by the Ecumenical Development Group in consultation with the Church Leaders' Group.]

Frequency: As determined by Ecumenical Development Group in consulation with the Church Leaders'  Group 

Membership:     

  1. CTHI's Chair
  2. Mission Together Enabler (MTE) (If appointed)
  3. Church Leaders
  4. DEOs
  5. Those co-opted to the EDG
  6. All others who are invited by the EDG and the Church Leaders' Group to attend.
