Churches Togther in Denmead

Churches Together in Denmead

One of the main activities Churches Togther in Denmead each year is DABS. This is a highlight of the summer holiday for many children and is great fun. DABS stands for Denmead Activity and Bible School. The week has two themes that run side by side, an adventure theme with stories, activities, games, etc, and a theme from the bible which is introduced and developed throughout the week. Lively music and songs start and end each day. Last year’s DABS ran from Tuesday 8th to Friday 11th August and the week ends with a service in the marquee on Sunday 13th at 10am when we all gather together to celebrate.

An Alpha Course is run by the Anglican and Baptist Churches.

At the beginning of July 2006, Catholics were given ‘Day for Life’ – our celebration of the presence of the disabled and disadvantaged in our Church communities. As with all Christians, the Catholic Church teaches that all human lives, marked as they are in so many ways by suffering as well as joy, are to be valued, celebrated, cherished and respected. This is no less true if the person has a disability which causes him or her some unavoidable and maybe significant suffering. Thus, the Church says that every member of the human family – whether a foetus, an infant or an adult – is made in God’s image and is irreplaceable. Christians from all traditions will want to continue support the Catholic community in its prayer and witness to these truths.

Denmead Churches Together also run a holiday at home event called Past Times which will ran lats year on the 17th –18th August. Past Times is described like this. If going away on holiday during the summer is too difficult or costly for you then you may like to consider taking your holiday with us, (and be able to sleep in your own bed). We aim to provide a holiday atmosphere with first rate “hotel style” catering and facilities. Our front of house volunteers will do their best to satisfy all needs and requests in order to provide guests with a very enjoyable stay. To be eligible to book your place for Past Times you need to be resident in Denmead and have retired from full time work. The idea is to give people a chance to try out new hobbies and activities. We have guest speakers, artists and music so we are sure that we will be able to find something for everyone to enjoy. This will be a chance to meet old friends and meet some new people. The event is funded by the Churches Together in Denmead and it is hoped that people who do not normally attend church will find us welcoming. Although the programme does not include any services, if guests feel that they may like to speak to the Vicar, Pastor or Priest during the week or at any other time we would be delighted to arrange this for you.
