Churches Together in Winchester


Churches Together in Winchester (CTW) draws most Christian churches together in the area in fellowship. Mike and Adrienne Caplin, members of Christ Church, are CTW’s executive secretaries. CTW comprises the following churches. Each church operates individually but they come together under the auspices of CTW to share to their annual events and to support their ecumenical projects - CTW's Annual General Meeting receives reports from many of these Church-based projects from across the City.

Anglican Churches: All Saints Compton: All Saints Winchester; Christ Church; Holy Trinity Winchester; Holy Trinity Wonston; University of Winchester Chapel; St Barnabas; St Bartholomew’s; St Catherine’s Littleton; St Cross with St Faith; St John’s; St Lawrence with St Swithun. St Luke with St Mark; St Mary’s Crawley; St Mary’s Kings Worthy; St Mary the Virgin Twyford; St Matthew’s Otterbourne; St Mathews with St Paul; St Stephen’s Sparsholt; Winchester Cathedral
  2. Roman Catholic:  St Peter’s Church, with St Stephens and St Thomas More
  3. Methodist: Wesley, Weeke
  4. United Reformed Church: The United Church (URC and Methodist)
  5. Baptist : Winchester Baptist Church
  6. North Winchester Community Church
  7. Salvation Army:  The Citadel Winchester
  8. Religious Society of Friends: Meeting House, Winchester
  9. Pentecostal City Church 

A brief description of two of these churches is given below. 

The United Church, Winchester. is committed to the proclamation of the good news of God's love for all people as expressed in Jesus Christ. It is a church with an ecumenical vision, a concern for issues of justice and peace, believing in the transforming power of God's love in Christ in the lives of individuals and the community. The Minister of the United Church, Winchester, in the Revd Dr Howard Mellor who is the current Chair of Churches Together in Winchester.  The web site of the United Church is http://www.unitedchurchwinchester.org.uk/

Christ Church (Anglican)  Our Vicar is the Vice-Chair of CTW and Chair-designate. Many of  the ecumenical initiatives of the Christian churches in Winchester send reports to CTW. Members of Christ Church play a role within the local YMCA, The Winchester Churches Housing Group, The Nightshelter, The Basics Bank, Home start, Naomi House (children's hospice), Langley Trust and many  other community groups.

Mission Winchester. This association of 8 churches came into being in 1984 for Mission England, Billy Graham’s last preaching mission to England. The association continues with a strong priority on praying for the city of Winchester, and looking for creative and imaginative ways to serve the city and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ in words and actions. Joint services are held three times each year and major city-wide events are planned to happen each year.
