Petersfield Area Churches Together

Petersfield Area Churches Together (PACT)

P.A.C.T. includes eleven churches. Four are Church of England: St Peter's in the town centre, which also opens its doors to concerts and other community uses, has a liberal catholic tradition, St Mary Magdalen, in Sheet, has a more informal approach while St Mary, Buriton uses mainly traditional forms of worship as does All Saints in Steep. All churches vary their style of worship for different age groups.

St Laurence serves the Roman Catholic communities in Petersfield and Liss, providing appropriate worship for all ages. The United Reformed Church seeks to be all-inclusive, as does the newly refurbished Methodist Church which also offers its building for community use. The Petersfield Christian Fellowship is a community church with very informal worship and a family atmosphere. The Salvation Army caters for all ages with a simple worship and teaching style. The Evangelical Church is a small Bible-based church. and the Society of Friends (Quakers)- also a small group, offers silent worship as well as discussion.

The P.A.C.T. churches meet two or three times a year for shared services and also have shared discussion groups. P.A.C.T. is organised by a committee including representatives from all the churches, and it has been instrumental in setting up or supporting a number of initiatives, among them the Petersfield Counselling Service, The Petersfield Housing Association, The King's Arms project for young people, the annual summer Holiday Club for children, Home-Start Butser, The Unity Bookshop, The Petersfield Society for Special Needs, Petersfield Voluntary Care, The Social Concerns Group and support for TEAR FUND and Christian Aid.
