The Isle of Wight - Christians Working Together in Shanklin

Christians Working Together In Shanklin

Seven local churches are working together to create a united witness in the community.  This formal arrangement was launched in January 2002 though the churches and leaders have been worshiping and working together for many years. All these Churches are committed to the proclamation of the good news of God's love for all people as expressed in Jesus Christ. They have a concern for issues of justice and peace, believing in the transforming power of God's love in Christ in the lives of individuals and the community.

Christians Working Together in Shanklin are part of a network of Churches on the Island, Wight Churches, with its website and information service, which serves the whole Christian community on the Isle of Wight.

There are United Prayer Meetings which take place monthly at the United Reformed Church Shanklin on the last Friday of each month from 07:00 – 08:00.

Shanklin's Christians meet together for a United Service at 18.30 on the second Sunday of the month from September to March. there is no meeting December and the January one is often a week later to coincide with the Week of prayer for Christian unity and is usually at the earlier time of 16.30. On the other Sundays there is Informal Shared Worship (which runs through into May) at 19:00 each week, with several of the churches hosting and leading - 1st Sunday at URC. 3rd at Methodist and 4th at Sacred Heart (RC). These meetings are usually in the church hall/rooms.

During June, July and August there is Worship in the Open Air each Sunday evening in Rylstone Gardens - a lovely inspiring setting for Christian worship. The season of open air praise services starts each year on the last Sunday in May and runs through to the end of August. Different groups take it in turns to lead the meetings from the bandstand, which always attract a good number of holiday visitors.

There is a Holiday Bible Club, Alpha courses, Lent meetings, Procession of Witness on Good Friday and United Easter Services  .
